MODEL - STRATEGIC PARTNERS

Integral to ITDC’s overall strategy is the formation of strategic partnerships. Five key strategic partnerships have been identified  within the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and TheThunderbird School of Global Management.

University of Arizona College of Controlled Environment Agriculture Center (CEAC)
ITDC’s first partnership is with the Controlled Agriculture Environment Center (CEAC) to move its applied research into the market place.  Beginning with a strategic plan and the commercialization of know-how in new closed-system greenhouses, the partnership will enhance the global reputation beyond the already nationally recognized Food Production Technology to include plant-made proteins for pharmaceuticals, biofuels, and industrial/agrichemicals.

University of Arizona Eller College of Management
ITDC’s strategic partnership with the Eller College will enhance the educational experience for its graduate students through a hands-on exposure to innovative technology development.  ITDC will jointly market with The Eller College to solicit for scholarships to provide stipend-based research internships for project assignments.  The Eller College will be able to provide more cross-professional, interdisciplinary exposure for its students.  Now that the model is operational, ITDC has begun working with other colleges throughout the university to provide the same services.

University of Arizona College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS)
ITDC was recently invited by CALS and members of the private sector to lead an initiative to create a Biofuels Institute for Research and Commercialization.  Starting with a clean slate, ITDC plans to make as broad and inclusive program that focuses on an industry driven approach to research and development.

Thunderbird School of Global Management
ITDC has created a matching scholarship program to fund interns from Thunderbird to work on projects sourced out of Southern Arizona.  It is the first time that Thunderbird students are heading south to Tucson, because they have an incentive to get hands on experience evaluating commercial viability as well as a potential job and an equity stake in the start up company once it is funded.

BioDesign Institute of the Arizona State University
ITDC's first start up company, Sonora Transplant LLC, was invited to join a strategic partnership with the BioDesign Institute and the Controlled Environment Agriculture Center to produce plant-made proteins.  The collaboration has already won a Science Foundation of Arizona (SFAZ) grant to ramp up production of proteins in plants and has attracted the attention of Dow AgroSciences LLC for a strategic research grant from SFAZ for targeted plant-made pharmaceuticals, disease and pest management, and for contract manufacturing of plant-made pharmaceuticals for the FDA and USDA regulatory approval process.

Integral to ITDC’s overall strategy is the formation of strategic partnerships.
