VISION - COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
ITDC has studied economic development models across the nation. Successful models developed in San Diego, Austin, and Ottawa may work in their respective cities, but it is hard to transplant their models to Southern Arizona. We have to come up with our own solutions to our common community and economic development challenges if we want to generate sustainable community capacity and integrate our social, economic, and environmental objectives. Community Development Challenges If security no longer comes from being employed, it must come from being employable. ITDC offers hands-on education and training for those who want to develop new skills that can be applied to new opportunities as they arise. ITDC seeks to attract people who see sustainable economic development - be they students, graduates, career switchers, as well as small and medium-sized business owners - as the means to develop the skills necessary to compete in the realm of local and global commerce. Economic Development Challenges ITDC provides advocacy and an understanding of a methodology of inquiry to identify global opportunities for our unique intellectual capital resident in Southern Arizona – be it our bilingual/bicultural capability, our human network of people and companies around the world, our accumulated experiences in the international arena, or the intellectual property generated from years of research and development in areas that are in great demand around the globe. Then, ITDC works with the community to develop the promising opportunities into new jobs, new companies, and new industries. Sustainable Development Challenges ITDC looks for opportunities that deliver economic prosperity, social cohesion, and environmental friendliness. This translates into net profit margins of over 20% per year, full-time high skilled jobs with upward mobility, with an eye towards more efficient uses of water, materials, energy including carbon sequestration, renewable energy, and bioremediation. Results People and organizations build upon each other's strengths to create comparative advantage for local companies in the global markets. ITDC depends upon the rich, multidimensional, vibrant community to stimulate valuable and worthwhile programs and projects. |
